12 Things to do now, before summer ends and school starts back up again.
Balanced Healing Salt + Sauna is celebrating the Last Hurrah of Summer during the month of August.
The new school year is just around the corner. This means it’s time to think about what you need to do before the start of school. It is important to remember that you don't have to wait for the first day of school to start planning ahead. There are a few things you can do in order to make your back-to-school transition as smooth as possible, and they all start with planning ahead.
Plan= less Stress - That’s why we have compiled a list of 12 things to do now, before summer ends and school starts up again!
Tip #1 - Get Organized
Get your supplies together before school starts and make sure you have everything you need for the year. This includes not just pens, pencils, notebooks, and textbooks but also clothes, shoes, snacks, electronics, and anything else you might need throughout the year.
Tip #2 - Get Healthy - or Stay Healthy
One of the best ways to start off a new year is by getting healthy! Make sure you're eating right and drinking plenty of water so that your body can keep up with all of the new activities that school brings. Also, talk to your child about what they’d like to have for lunch, and what makes for a balanced meal. Kids are more likely to eat what they feel like they've had a part in deciding.
Tip #3 - Start Adjusting Bedtime before School Starts
With more hours of daylight, bedtimes slide. Start now and move lights-out 15 minutes earlier each night, until you're back on your school year schedule.
Tip #4 - Start Setting Your Morning Routine
Mornings are crazy, but if everyone, including yourself, knows the routine, everyone can do their part. Morning routine lists, setting out clothing the night before, backpacks at the ready. These are just a few ideas. For my family it was backpacks and shoes. Shoes always went missing in the morning!
Tip #5 - Playdates
Playdates are a great way for children to get back into the swing of things after summer break. They are also an opportunity for children to learn new skills and make friends with other kids from their grade.
Tip #6 - Check Out the School
Take a drive together to the school, walk around the playground and the neighborhood. Oftentimes schools have a meet and greet a few days prior, and this is the perfect time to acquaint or reacquaint yourselves. This was always a family favorite each year.
Tip #7 Special Day or Activity
Spend a day choosing an activity that each child would like to do, (within reason) And then do it. Be engaged, be present, be joyful.
Tip #8 - Playdates
Back to school time is a time of responsibility and new beginnings and the perfect time to add to your child's chore or responsibility list. (ex: Did you know that 3rd graders get to help pack their own lunches now?)
Tip #9 - Wellness Check
Make the check-up appointment with your primary care physician or wellness professional.
Tip #10 Organize Closets and Backpacks
This turned out to be one of our favorite activities. Pulling out all the old clothes, talking about favorite pieces, deciding what new pieces of clothing are needed. Coordinating and organizing is a very productive way to quiet the mind and calm fears. Also remember items like hair brushes, toothbrushes, hair accessories and DEODORANT. (you can thank me later)
Tip #11 - Set Up Lunch Date with Your Bestie!
Reconnect, share your summer adventures. Friendships make your lows not so low and your highs even higher!
Tip #12 Be Your Best Self
